Idaho Juvenile Diversion

Diversion is a voluntary program that offers juveniles an opportunity to resolve a filed police report without appearing in court. The Prosecuting Attorney may refer juveniles to the diversion program, especially if their crimes are minor offenses and they are first time offenders. Participants are held accountable to the victim and community (punishment) and learn skills to help them make better choices.

Diversion is entered before any actual charges are brought against the juvenile and requires the prosecuting attorney's referral (there is nothing that the juvenile, their parents, or their attorney can do to force a case into diversion).

Diversion is a program only offered to juveniles in most Idaho jurisdictions - adult courts do not have a diversion program.
